No, Gajapati Kulapati never ages. In fact, nobody in the series ages. That village exists in a timeless dimension, you can say.
2. Did the popularity of the previous GK books make you more conscious in choosing the right plot for this book?
Yes, I always have the fear of the story not living up to reader expectation. The theme is easy to choose; it's usually something to do with issues kids or their
parents have: colds, tummy aches, allergy to baths ... But the way the story is to be told is most important. It has to create a laugh-out-loud funny, noisy, feel-goodexperience. That requires some work.

3. Do some/all of the minor characters from the previous books appear in the latest story?
Most of them. We again have the banana seller, the teacher, the grandmother and the cow. Even inanimate 'characters' make repeat appearances: the rain, the pond, the hiding wall, and the big house they built for Gajapati Kulapati.
4.How much of Kalich-Bulich did you enjoy when you were a little boy?
Oh, I splashed around a lot. I was a dirty, muddy boy. You know, the day you stop being a child is when you go around a muddy puddle instead of through it. These days I pretend to be an adult and go around puddles. In my head, I am still a kalicha kulicha kid.

5. How do you create unique sounds for every book? Any technique you use to test if they work?
Most of them are existing onomatopoeic words used by people around me. I use words like pachaak and damaal myself! Kalabalooosh and Gurrrburrom I created, to match the sound of the action in the scene. This is the influence of all those comics I read as a kid, with their whooms and kabooms and thooms.I don't test them out on people; I just shout them out loud to see if they work.
6. The pond features quite often in your GK books.
The human body is almost a water body isn't it? About 70% is water! Just like our good old earth. I associate a feeling of tranquillity with fountains, ponds, lakes, waterfallsvand beaches. As a child, my family's summer vacation was spent at the villages of my grandmothers. No bathrooms then. My father's mother took us to the temple pond for our daily bath, and my mother's mother to a stream. Plish plosh times!
7. What would you like to tell all your little fans who don't like bathing after a bit of Kalich-Bulich?
I would like to tell them that I know and understand, having been allergic to baths when I was their age. I used to be an oiled runaway as a toddler whom my grandma had to catch and wash, with the help of aunts and neighbours. I was as slippery as a fish! Would also like to promise my readers that after the bath they will feel absolutely wonderful.
8. Did GK, the gentle giant, follow your plotline easily when you started writing the story? Did he refuse and chart his own path ?
Funnily, the Gajapati Kulapati stories are autobiographical, not so much in fact, but in spirit. So it was easy to lead him through the story. Very co-operative he is. A no-trouble giant...
