Everything You Wanted To Know About Tulika's New Bookclub

Chennai based Tulika Books is about to launch a book club for children. Aneesha Vijay Kumar, Promotions and Marketing Manager of Tulika Books, shares some details about the bookclub.

1. What do kids stand to benefit by joining the book club?


The Tulika Book Club, we hope, will be THE space for eight- to twelve-year-olds to meet like-minded peers and create their own community of readers and book lovers! 

2. How often will the bookclub meet?
Twice a month.

3. Will there be a theme for every meet?
As of now the sessions are planned by theme. 

4. Is there any fee/purchase to be made to join the bookclub?
Yes, it will be Rs 1200 for four sessions over two months. The fee will include two books. 

5. Will there be any guided writing/drawing activities/workshops in the bookclub?
Absolutely! The children will dabble with writing, play word games, discuss genres, writers,
 illustrators, etc.

6. Where will the bookclub meet?

At the Tulika Bookstore, Alwarpet, Chennai

7. Will the bookclub feature only Tulika authors and illustrators?
Sandhya Rao

Not really. The facilitator, Sandhya Rao, has planned for sessions with Tulika books but will discuss books by other writers as well.

8. Anything else Tulika fans should know about the bookclub.

The latest recipient of the Bala Sahitya Puraskar for Marathi Literature(2017), Laxman Mahipati Kadu(L.M.Kadu) is a farmer, illustrator, and an author.  The esteemed national recognition has been bestowed upon him for his book, Kharicha Vata( Rajhans Publications). Published in 2013, the book is a middle grade novel la which deals with friendship of two boys, a squirrel and the displacement of families after the construction of a dam in a village.  The Bala Sahitya Akademi award is the fourth award for the book of over 200 pages.  The premise for the story came from Mr Kadu’s life.  It was while he was pursuing his primary schooling in Panshet that a dam came up in the vicinity.  The government provided land to the residents for resettlement.
